During the visit, His Majesty toured the seed bank's sections and listened to a briefing by the acting Director-General of the National Center for Agricultural Research, Dr. Khaled Abu Hamour. He explained that the bank strives to improve the quality of seeds, contributing to the development of the agricultural sector and the production of new varieties for future generations.

Dr. Abu Hamour further emphasized that the National Seed Bank includes laboratories designed according to the highest global standards. The bank houses old seed samples, with the oldest dating back to 1927, serving researchers and academics in universities and scientific research centers specializing in agricultural research and development.

The bank's importance lies in addressing the challenges of climate change, water scarcity, increasing population numbers, and the disruptions in global food systems and supply chains. Its role is crucial in preserving plant diversity and ensuring healthy and sustainable food sources.

The National Seed Bank includes rooms for seed storage, drying facilities, and testing areas, with a storage capacity of 50,000 samples. The total construction cost is approximately 3.8 million dinars, with 3 million dinars funded by Al-Hussein University.

The cooling technology used in the bank helps extend the life of seeds from 10 years to 100 years for some plant varieties, ensuring the continuity of agricultural life for future generations.

The bank’s creation is an extension of the Seed Storage Unit established at the National Center for Agricultural Research in 1993, aligning with the Executive Program for the Economic Modernization Vision of the agricultural sector, the National Sustainable Agriculture Plan (2022-2025), and the National Food Security Strategy.

Present at the inauguration were Yousef Hassan Al-Eisawi, Director of the Royal Court, Engineer Alaa Al-Bataineh, Director of His Majesty's Office, Minister of Agriculture Engineer Khaled Hneifat, and Dr. Khaled Al-Hiyari, President of Al-Hussein University.
