Polar Air Mass to Impact the Kingdom on Wednesday , Thursday

Amman – Jordan is set to experience a shift in weather conditions over the coming days, with a significant drop in temperatures and increased precipitation expected, particularly from Wednesday onwards, as a very cold air mass of polar origin affects the region.اضافة اعلان

On Monday, the weather will be relatively cold, especially over highlands, while warmer conditions will prevail in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba. Scattered clouds at medium and high altitudes are expected, with moderate southeasterly winds shifting to northwesterly in the afternoon.

According to the Jordan Meteorological Department, Tuesday’s conditions will remain cold over highlands and warm in lower-altitude regions, with moderate northwesterly winds prevailing.

By Wednesday, the Kingdom will come under the influence of an extremely cold polar air mass associated with a deepening low-pressure system centered over Cyprus. This will result in a significant temperature drop, with initially partly cloudy skies turning overcast. Rainfall will begin in northern regions and extend to central areas, potentially accompanied by thunderstorms. Strong westerly winds, with gusts reaching up to 60 km/h, will stir dust, particularly in desert areas.

During the night, the impact of the low-pressure system will intensify, ushering in even colder air and leading to a sharp temperature decline. Rainfall will extend across most regions, with periods of heavy precipitation accompanied by thunderstorms and hail, raising the risk of flash floods and water level rises in valleys and low-lying areas. By late night, snowfall in the form of light flurries may occur over the high peaks of the Sharah Mountains.

The Kingdom will remain under the influence of the frigid and moist air mass on Thursday, with temperatures continuing to dip. Widespread rain is expected across most regions, with heavy downpours at times, potentially leading to further flash flooding.

Thunderstorms and hail may accompany the rainfall, while strong westerly winds, exceeding 70 km/h in some areas, will cause dust storms in desert regions. By evening, precipitation will gradually subside, and wind speeds will decrease.

The expected maximum and minimum temperatures on Sunday are as follows: Eastern Amman 18-8C, Western Amman 16-6C, northern highlands 16-5C, Sharah Mountains 17-4C, desert regions 20-5C, plains 19-7C, Dead Sea 25-15C, and Aqaba 25-14C.
