During a meeting held yesterday evening in Amman, chaired by the head of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, Khalil Hajj Toffi, on the Jordanian side, and the head of the Al-Jouf Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Hamdan Al-Samrin, on the Saudi side, members of the council stressed the need to advance the trade and investment relations between the two countries and build upon the achievements made over the past years.
The council discussed several issues concerning the economic relations between Jordan and Saudi Arabia and the role it plays in enhancing them, in addition to addressing challenges facing trade exchanges and proposing solutions and initiatives.
During the meeting, they confirmed the reactivation of sub-committees according to each sector and referred the challenges and solutions to them for study. They also proposed upcoming joint activities, including holding regular meetings for the council and considering the location of meetings, the importance of setting a timeline for exchanging visits of trade and economic delegations, as well as approving the new logo that reflects the depth of the relations between the two countries and strengthens the identity of the council.
The meeting confirmed the necessity of developing a mechanism to follow up on the work between the two countries, benefiting from promising opportunities, conducting feasibility studies for the best projects in the Syrian market, and providing both business communities with these studies. Additionally, they discussed creating networking opportunities between business owners from both sides to establish joint ventures.
A set of solutions and initiatives were proposed to improve trade exchange, such as accelerating customs procedures, simplifying trade transactions, and enhancing cooperation in logistics infrastructure, renewable energy, and food security.
They also proposed the creation of a joint platform within the Saudi-Jordanian Business Council as a strategic step to enhance economic cooperation between the two countries by strengthening trade and investment cooperation and facilitating joint investment opportunities, as well as connecting businessmen to open new markets in various sectors.
The council emphasized that the joint platform should include organizing trade events and exhibitions to bring together companies and business owners from both countries to exchange experiences and showcase business opportunities. It should also establish training programs and workshops to support the development of human capacities in various fields such as technology, innovation, industry, and services.
The council pointed out that the joint platform could include support for joint projects that benefit both countries, whether in traditional sectors like industry or modern sectors like renewable energy and information technology. It also proposed cooperation in formulating investment and trade promotion policies, simplifying customs procedures, and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises by providing financing, guidance, and marketing.
The meeting discussed the challenges facing trade exchange between the two countries and proposed solutions and initiatives. The council will conduct a remote survey to gather information about the challenges faced by each sector, then study it and refer it to the concerned authorities for follow-up.
They also agreed to re-activate the sub-committees of the council, with each committee dedicated to following up on a specific sector, such as services, logistics, food, agriculture, education, and information technology. They emphasized the importance of referring challenges facing these sectors to the relevant committees for study and providing appropriate solutions, with periodic reports to track progress.
Additionally, it was agreed to form a trade delegation from the Jordanian side of the Saudi-Jordanian Business Council in coordination between the Jordan Chamber of Commerce and the Saudi Chambers of Commerce Union to visit the Saudi Chambers Union, discuss common issues, and explore trade opportunities in Saudi Arabia. A task force will also be established to follow up on the council's recommendations.
The meeting also touched on the importance of organizing regular meetings to follow up on progress in joint projects, exchange visits of trade and economic delegations, focus on investment opportunities, develop cooperation between major and small companies, and study organizing a joint Jordanian-Saudi trade exhibition in Jordan.
