MAFRAQ —The
Mafraq Culture Department organized a symposium on Sunday called “Restoration of monuments and how to preserve cultural and archaeological heritage in the governorate of Mafraq,” according to Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The head of the activities sector of the department, Samer Khazaleh, said that this symposium is considered a part of the department’s yearly plan to organize numerous events to celebrate Jordan’s centenary.
Khazaleh confirmed that this symposium aims to highlight the
archaeological treasures found in areas of the governorate and emphasize the need to restore and maintain these treasures. He added that these areas give an insight into the history present in Mafraq across the centuries.
Emad Obeidat, Director of Mafraq Department of Antiquities, pointed out the most prominent archaeological sites in the governorate and the department’s role in caring for and restoring these sites and researching and excavating any new antiquities.
