AMMAN — Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Nayef Al-Fayez attended the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Al-Salam Square in Madaba on Thursday, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Musa Al-Maaytah, EU Ambassador to Jordan Maria Hadjitheodosiou, and Vatican’s Ambassador to Jordan Alberto Ortega Martin attended the ceremony along with deputies from within and outside the governorate.
During the ceremony, Fayez emphasized that lighting the Christmas tree coincides with Madaba being chosen as the Arab Tourism Capital for the year 2022.
Father Nicholas Daoud expressed his appreciation to the tourism minister for attending the ceremony and stressed the importance of Madaba city for being a multi-religious community.
Samer Tawal, head of the Tourism Development and Heritage Preservation Association, also thanked the tourism minister for attending the ceremony and emphasized that Madaba is a city of tolerance and compassion.
Tawal pointed out that this year’s ceremony was brief and held in adherence with the defense orders, wishing peace for Jordan and the world and for the COVID-19 pandemic to come to an end as soon as possible.
