The two artists’ painting often depict Jordan, representing the
love they have for their country.
Both Mouasher and Alqam grew up in Amman, although their
experiences with Jordan are vastly different; they both paint from a personal
and genuine perspective and are similar in their keen observation of Jordanian urban
landscapes. While each artist develops their own particular interpretation of
locations, both real and imaginary, each of their collections compliments the
other.

Alqam told
Jordan News that the exhibition's concept aims to
show audiences how artists might perceive the same scene in various ways.
He said that impressionism and expressionism have impacted his
work. “Expressionism is more emotional and depends on feelings; that is, how
the artist sees the scene from his heart, and it is different from
impressionism — the impressionistic realism and sense of the scene,” the artist
said.
Alqam’s work often depicts the mountains in Jordan’s southern desert,
which he accentuates with dark brown and black hues.
However, his work also focuses on Amman and the architectural
creation of the city, as Amman's hills are densely packed with building. “I
enjoy drawing Amman, and every time I do, I feel as though I haven't painted it
enough,” the artist said.

Alqam has been painting since 1996. He has held numerous solo exhibitions and
participated in a number of group exhibitions around Europe, the UK, Ireland,
the US, Pakistan, and Jordan. Moreover, his Amman paintings capture the turmoil
and beauty of the city's historic places and neighborhoods.
Alqam added that he also enjoys painting Salt because “the
ancient Salt city is full of colors and integrity,” he said.
In one of Alqam’s pieces, the artist uses the door of a wardrobe
to represent Amman on one side, and people's memories of the city on the other
through drawings.
“People used to write important information on the inside of the
wardrobe door,” Alqam said. “The wardrobe was part of our memories.”

Reem Mouasher takes a different approach to her artwork.
Mouasher told
Jordan News that it was her first experience in showcasing her work
at an exhibition.
Mouasher said that she drew the places in her work from her
imagination and memory. Moreover, she worked on the paintings during the
lockdowns.
“During the quarantine, I used to draw places and cities such as
Salt, that I love and want to visit, but I couldn't because of the situation of
the pandemic,” Mouasher said.
Her work included depictions of downtown Amman, the city of
Salt, Dana, Wadi Rum, and Aqaba in the south, in addition to the nature and
flowers in which Jordan is famous for, as well as the jacaranda tree.
Mouasher’s paintings were characterized by soft colors.
“I am a positive and
optimistic person, who believes that tomorrow will be better than today,” she said,
adding that this comes out in her work.
Despite the fact that the two painters’ styles differed, they
collaborated together to depict Jordan's landscapes. Moreover, Alqam added that
he and Mouasher painted the same scene but in different styles since it made
for a wonderful combination of their artwork.
It is worth noting that Nabad Art Gallery shows and distributes
modern art by emerging and recognized visual artists.
