AMMAN — Wadi Finan Art Gallery launched a group
exhibition for Gazan artists on July 3.
All proceeds from the exhibition, which is called "Hakaya," will
be going to the artists themselves, according to a statement from the gallery.

“We’re excited to be showing off
their work,” Suha Lallas, Wadi Finan’s founder and director, said in the
statement. “These are incredibly talented artists and Wadi Finan is proud to promote
their work.”
The exhibition will include works by a number of artists, including Mohamed
Harb, who has worked in fine arts since 1995.

The artist is experienced in different mediums, including video art.
Among his works is A Biography of
Gaza, which documented a decade of its
siege across a number of artworks, according to the statement. His philosophy,
however, is to bring color to Gaza’s “grey, ashy reality”.
Another artist, Abdel Nasser Amer, is a resident of Khan Yunis Camp and
works with traditional Palestinian styles to depict life in Gaza using
surrealistic imagery to capture sentiment in a variety of tones. He has had
exhibitions in both the Middle East and Europe.

Sohail Salem uses expressionism — a way of externalizing anxiety — to
depict people and still life. He has also produced art installations and worked
in sculpture, photography, puppeteering, and graphic design.

Maisara F. Baroud, who is also featured in the exhibition, started by
representing literature in art and exploring contradictory nature. His work
evolved to explore worldwide suffering in art, especially in Palestine, and he is
interested in humanitarian crises, such as war, arrest, and occupation,
according to the gallery’s statement.

Ayman Issa’s work has traveled the world. He mixes vibrant colors with
curved, distorted human figures — mostly women, a celebration of the feminine
form — to make his paintings immediately recognizable to fans.
“The stylistic range of the artists
is exciting,” said Lallas. “Each has had a remarkable career, with many more
works to come. We are always amazed by the quality of work Palestinian artists
put out, and hope to see lovers of art visiting us at Wadi Finan to explore it
for themselves.”
The exhibition will run until July 15, from 10am to 7pm.
