Despite Ternana's impressive season in Italy’s Serie C (third division)—currently sitting second in Group B, just three points behind Entella, with 15 wins, 8 draws, and only 2 losses—the club’s president, Stefano D’Alessandro, made the shocking decision to dismiss Abate.

Reports suggest that D’Alessandro was furious after Abate refused to play his 20-year-old son, Mattia, a forward, in their latest league match for tactical and sporting reasons. This disagreement led to Abate’s immediate dismissal on Thursday. However, widespread backlash from both fans and players put immense pressure on the club president, forcing him to reverse his decision and reinstate Abate the following day.

Ignazio Abate, a former AC Milan star, had a decorated playing career, winning one Serie A title, two Italian Super Cups, and finishing runner-up at Euro 2012 with the Italian national team.
