The Kuwaiti newspaper "Al-Qabas" mentioned that the Public Prosecution charged Al-Saeed with broadcasting false news, misusing the information network, and spreading fabricated news, which led to her conviction and the subsequent prison sentence.
However, the newspaper clarified that the court acquitted Fajr Al-Saeed of the charge of calling for normalization with the Israeli occupation entity.
The Kuwaiti Public Prosecution had previously issued a decision on January 8, 2025, to detain Al-Saeed for 21 days and transfer her to the central prison, following accusations of calling for normalization with Israel and harming the country’s interests.
In early February 2025, the Public Prosecution issued a decision to detain Al-Saeed for an additional 21 days and transfer her to the central prison on charges of insulting a brotherly Arab country, Iraq.
This action was taken after the embassy of the concerned country filed an official complaint to the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which referred it to the relevant authorities for legal procedures.
Al-Saeed issued an apology to Iraq, stating: "Out of my concern for the strong Kuwaiti-Iraqi relations, which I have always worked on strengthening both personally and professionally, I apologize to the Republic of Iraq for anything I may have said that could affect the relationship between the two countries or anything that was said unintentionally. And I decided to retire from political work and all matters related to political criticism and others."
