A Turkish village stands out for its unique tradition of having the "mesaharati" (pre-dawn drummer) use a horn to wake up fasting people at night, a custom passed down for nearly six decades.

Instead of the traditional drum of various sizes used by mesaharatis in different Turkish cities, towns, and across the Arab and Islamic world, the residents of the village of "Kara Denizli" in the Van province of southern Turkey are accustomed to the sound of a horn during suhoor (pre-dawn meal).
One of the mesaharatis in the village, named "Osman Ulusal," says he inherited this method of waking up people for suhoor from his ancestors and continues to maintain it to this day.
The young mesaharati believes that the use of the horn for waking people goes back to ancient military units and somehow made its way to their village, according to local media reports.
This year, two young mesaharatis walk through the narrow streets and alleys of the village, although the number was larger in previous years.
However, videos documenting their practice of this traditional profession using the unusual wake-up tool have spread beyond the village’s boundaries, with bloggers sharing them across the country.
