Scents play a more significant role in human life than one might initially think, as they affect mood, concentration, memory, and even performance.

According to Dr. Galina Chudiskaya, a neurologist, scents have different effects. For example, the smell of lemon, rosemary, mint, basil, sage, and eucalyptus can enhance concentration and stimulate mental activity. On the other hand, scents from plants such as thyme, lavender, and lemon balm promote relaxation, helping to reduce stress levels and improve mood.
She says: "An interesting study conducted in 2017 at the Southern Federal University showed that the scent of orange essential oil can significantly improve short-term visual memory because the smell of orange activates certain parts of the brain, helping to retain information better. However, this therapeutic method does not help treat diseases such as Alzheimer's, but it can serve as an additional stimulant for memory training."
Dr. Chudiskaya points out that the use of various fragrances in public spaces, such as stores, cafes, hotels, or banks, has become common. This helps create a pleasant atmosphere and enhances the perception and acceptance of products.
She adds: "Using stimulating scents, such as citrus or mint, in classrooms for schoolchildren and students can improve learning. In relaxation areas or isolated spaces, it is better to use soothing scents to create a comfortable and calm environment." – (RT)
