Galatasaray accused the Portuguese coach of making racist remarks after the goalless draw between the two traditional rivals in Istanbul on Monday in the 25th round of the league.

In comments made after the match, it was reported that the Portuguese coach said that the players on Galatasaray’s bench "were jumping like monkeys."

He also reportedly repeated his criticisms of the Turkish referees who missed this sensitive fixture between the two rivals, which was officiated by Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić, after both clubs had requested a foreign officiating team, as reported.

The Disciplinary Committee of the Turkish Football Federation imposed a two-match suspension on the Portuguese coach for his comments about the fourth official and an additional two-match suspension for his remarks targeting Galatasaray’s bench, considering them to be "a violation of sports ethics."

Mourinho was also fined approximately 42,600 euros.

Mourinho took over as coach of Fenerbahçe last summer, after three seasons with Roma, where he led the club to a Conference League title in 2022.
