Scientists from the University of Pennsylvania have discovered a simple and effective way to help lower harmful cholesterol levels in the body and maintain healthy blood vessels.

According to the *AJCN* journal, the researchers conducted a study to determine the best methods to reduce bad cholesterol levels in individuals with metabolic disorders. The study included 138 adults suffering from obesity, high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol levels, and high blood glucose levels, with ages ranging from 25 to 70 years.
During the study, participants were divided into two groups: one group was asked to replace their daytime snacks with 30 grams of pecans, while the second group continued with their usual snacks. Over the course of 12 weeks, the researchers collected data on cholesterol levels and blood vessel health for each participant.
The results of the study showed that individuals who replaced their snacks with pecans had lower levels of bad cholesterol and improved blood vessel health. This made them less susceptible to blood clots, heart disease, and strokes.
The researchers highlighted that pecans contain polyphenols, plant compounds with anti-inflammatory properties. These compounds help maintain healthy blood vessels and improve blood flow throughout the body.
