Details reveal that Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, Peter Thiel, the co-founder of PayPal, and Sam Altman, the founder of ChatGPT, are among the latest individuals in a long line of American financial moguls who have invested part of their wealth in regenerative medicine and biotechnology.
Bezos is said to have invested $3 billion in Altos Labs, a biotechnology company co-founded with Russian billionaire Yuri Milner in 2021. The startup has hired prominent scientists to research how to reverse the aging process and pursue what is known as "biological reprogramming technology," which could allow scientists to regenerate cells in the lab.
Altos Labs' objectives are similar to those of Calico Labs, founded by Google co-founder Larry Page in 2013, which focuses on longevity, cell reprogramming, and regeneration. However, these billionaires are not the only ones striving to fight aging: Peter Thiel, co-founder of PayPal, has invested in the Methuselah Foundation, which describes itself as a "non-profit medical charity focused on extending human healthy lifespan by making 90 the new 50."
Among Methuselah's goals is to develop technologies capable of creating new organs, blood vessels, and bones, eliminating destructive biological structures from the body, and conducting further research into epigenetics, as well as restoring cognition and physical abilities in the elderly.
