A recent study revealed that marriage significantly increases the risk of obesity, which is considered one of the deadly diseases. However, this effect is more pronounced in men than women.

According to the Daily Mail, scientists found that the risk of obesity is three times higher among married men compared to their unmarried counterparts. While both genders tend to gain weight after marriage, men appear to be more susceptible to this increase.
Men Are More Affected by Obesity After Marriage
Researchers analyzed health data from approximately 2,500 individuals and concluded that married men are 3.2 times more likely to become obese compared to unmarried men. In contrast, scientists did not find a clear connection between marriage and an increased risk of obesity in women.
The researchers believe that this gender difference may be due to "cultural factors," as societal perceptions of obesity vary between men and women.
The Impact of Age and Marriage on Weight
According to the analysis, married men have a 62% higher chance of becoming severely obese, compared to 39% for married women. The study also showed that aging increases the risk of obesity by 6% in women and 4% in men.
In this context, Dr. Alicia Checha Mikolaichek, the lead author of the study from the National Heart Institute in Warsaw, stated that "age and marital status clearly affect the likelihood of living with increased weight or obesity during adulthood, regardless of gender."
Obesity and Marriage: A Recurring Relationship in Studies
Among the 2,405 individuals included in the study, 35% had a healthy weight, 38% were overweight, and 26% were obese.
This is not the first study to link marriage with increased obesity rates in men, but it remains inconclusive for women. The Body Mass Index (BMI) is the measure used to determine obesity based on weight and height, with a person being considered overweight if their BMI exceeds 25.
Studies warn that obesity increases the risk of serious health conditions, such as cancer, stroke, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes, making it essential to maintain a healthy weight for a healthier life.
