In an experiment they conducted, participants who walked backward remembered more information than those who walked forward. Even imagining walking backward showed similar results, indicating a connection between recalling events and spatial movement.

Drawing

A 2018 study showed that associating words with drawings helped participants, including older adults, recall information more effectively than simply writing it down.

This is because drawing forces the brain to analyze details in depth, which contributes to stronger memory retention.

Exercise

While regular physical exercise generally improves memory, a study revealed that exercising four hours after learning might be more effective for consolidating long-term information.

Scientists are currently exploring the optimal timing for exercise to achieve the best results in memory enhancement.

Relaxation

Studies have found that taking a short break after learning new information can boost the ability to retrieve it later. In one experiment, participants who rested in a dark room after memorizing words remembered 49% of them, compared to only 14% for those who immediately engaged in another task.

However, the benefits were more pronounced for those who were used to napping, prompting scientists to study the possibility of training people to make the most of short naps.

These findings suggest that improving memory isn't limited to traditional methods and can be achieved through innovative strategies such as walking backward, drawing, exercising at the right time, relaxing, and even napping.
