A new study has confirmed that watching television for four or more hours a day is associated with a higher risk of developing brain-related disorders such as dementia, depression, and Parkinson’s disease.اضافة اعلان

The study, published in the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity, analyzed data from more than 473,000 adults aged between 39 and 72, who were enrolled in the UK Biobank.

Researchers followed participants over time until their death, monitoring diagnoses of dementia, Parkinson’s disease, or depression. Participants also reported how many hours they spent outside of work engaging in activities such as exercise, computer use, or watching TV.

Compared to people who watched TV for less than an hour per day, participants who reported watching for four hours or more daily had:

A 28% higher risk of developing dementia

A 35% higher risk of developing depression

A 16% higher risk of developing Parkinson’s disease

Interestingly, participants who reported moderate computer use (30 to 60 minutes per day) appeared to have a lower risk of developing these three conditions compared to those with minimal computer use.

However, since this was an observational study, the researchers emphasized that it cannot prove that excessive TV watching directly causes these conditions. It remains unclear whether it is a cause, an early sign, or simply linked to other contributing factors.
