Jordanian-German film wins international Visual Effects Society Award

AMMAN — The Jordanian-German short film "A Calling. From the Desert. To the Sea", directed by Murad Abu Eisheh, won the award for best visual effects in a student film at a ceremony for the Visual Effects Society Awards in Los Angeles, US, on Thursday.اضافة اعلان
The film, a joint Jordanian-German production represented by Shaghab Films and Jordan Pioneers, was shot entirely in Jordan in the Al-Dahek area of Azraq, according to a press statement shared with Jordan News on Thursday.
The story revolves around two sisters, Ahlam and Yasmine, who avert a predetermined fate, escaping beyond the boundaries set by their father, defying an enemy that lies within in order to reach a mythical sea.
The visual effects team spent over two years designing a monster featured in the film, called the “Ghoul”.
“In this film, I wanted to mix reality and fantasy, in an attempt to reimagine the childish imagination, through which I wanted to deal with growing up in a society that tries to control your choices and free will from a young age,” said writer and director Abu Eisheh, who won the Student Academy Award for his previous film “Television” and is a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (the Oscars).
During the awards ceremony, the students of the Animation Institute in charge of the film’s visual effects, Max Pollmann and Till Sander-Titgemeyer, accepted the award on behalf of the entire team.
The visual effects team particularly commended the interaction within the project team: “Not only were we able to achieve our goal of seamlessly integrating a realistic creature into the film, but we are also very happy to work with so many talented visual effects artists.”
“Of course, the same applies to the wonderful main production team of director Mourad Abou Aisha and producers Jude Kawwa, Rand Beiruty, and Malin Krüger,” the team added.
The Visual Effects Society (VES) is an association of more than 4,000 global experts in the visual effects industry. The VES Awards are the most important awards in the visual effects sector, after the Oscars.
