Clubs in Europe compete in three main tournaments: the UEFA Champions League (the strongest and most prestigious competition), the UEFA Europa League, and the UEFA Europa Conference League, which was launched four years ago, in the 2021-2022 season.
This current European season has witnessed several major surprises, as many top European teams failed to reach the Round of 16, especially in the Champions League and Europa League. This, in turn, affected the overall points tally and, consequently, the rankings of the major European leagues, according to "Transfermarkt."
One of the most significant surprises was the elimination of teams such as Manchester City, AC Milan, and Juventus from the knockout stages of the Champions League, as well as Porto, Galatasaray, AZ Alkmaar, and Anderlecht from the same stage in the Europa League.
Despite these shocks, the English Premier League holds the top spot in the rankings, with its teams accumulating 106.6 points. Serie A comes in second place with 93.5 points, despite four out of its eight clubs being eliminated from the European competitions.
La Liga ranks third, while Ligue 1 sits in fifth place. The Turkish Super League is in tenth place.
Here is the ranking of the top 10 European leagues based on the performance of their clubs in the three continental competitions:
English Premier League: 6 out of 7 clubs reached the Round of 16, with an average of 106.6 points.
