According to Malaysia’s national news agency, Bernama, Malaysia, which currently chairs ASEAN, stated in a press release on Wednesday that the bloc welcomes the ceasefire in Gaza and calls for its full implementation, including the release of all detainees.
The ceasefire agreement in Gaza came into effect last Sunday following a deadly assault by the Israeli occupation forces on the territory that began on October 7, 2023.
The assault has resulted in severe humanitarian crises affecting all aspects of life in Gaza. It has devastated essential services and infrastructure, destroyed tens of thousands of homes and housing units, and led to the deaths of at least 47,107 Palestinians and the injury of more than 111,147 others.
Additionally, approximately 11,000 people remain missing under the rubble and on the streets.
