Haddad Maia, the world No. 24 who won titles in Nottingham and Birmingham in June, notched her first career victory over a number one-ranked player.

Poland's Swiatek, who was upset by France's Caroline Garcia in the quarter-finals at Warsaw last week, was playing her first hardcourt tournament since she lifted the title in Miami in April.

Since then, she has taken her tally of titles in 2022 to six, including the French Open.
