Hector
finished in 1 minute 06.71 seconds, 0.11sec ahead of French skier
Tessa Worley and 0.34 clear of Tuesday's winner
Mikaela Shiffrin.
The American
leads the giant slalom standings. Her closest challenger, Slovakian Petra
Vlhova was fifth.
The top
seven skiers were separated by less than a second heading into the second run at
1200GMT.
"Still
one more round to go and everything can happen and it's a tight race,"
said Hector.
"I have
to stay focused. I've been practising a lot on some techniques that I really
wanted to improve on.
"It
feels like it's working better and better, so that's cool!" Hector added.
The second
giant slalom in two days at Courchevel replaces a race in Killington in the US
called off due to bad weather at the end of November.
Austrian
Katharina Liensberger and Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami, both in the top 10 in the
giant slalom standings, missed the race due to testing positive for COVID-19.
