Speaking at a press conference in New York, Fu Cong stated that the situation in Gaza remains fragile, and the Council must ensure the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement and unhindered humanitarian aid access. He added that the Council will closely monitor the challenges facing UNRWA.
The Chinese representative also highlighted reports on military attacks launched by Israeli occupation forces on Sunday against residential buildings in Jenin, noting that the Council is considering convening a potential meeting to address this matter.
Regarding Syria, Fu Cong pointed out that the Council's focus is on supporting Syria in maintaining its unity, restoring stability, and initiating a credible and inclusive political transition process.
He mentioned that the agenda includes a special event on practicing multilateralism and reforming and improving global governance, adding that while the world enters a highly turbulent period, the open discussion aims to encourage countries to reconsider the original aspirations of the United Nations.
Fu Cong explained that this high-level meeting, scheduled for February 18, will be chaired by China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, and encouraged foreign ministers and senior officials from other countries to participate.
