The company is expanding its AI initiatives into daily life—after integrating the Gemini AI system into its mobile apps, Google is now venturing into the world of smart glasses that merge AR and AI in a design as simple and familiar as regular eyewear.

Multiple Functions
During a TED conference in Vancouver, a Google executive revealed a prototype of the Android XR glasses for the first time. The glasses feature a minimalist design, including a camera, microphone, speaker, and a miniature display embedded directly in the lenses.

The glasses are designed to work in real time with a connected smartphone, which handles all data processing. Despite their advanced features, Google has managed to keep the glasses light and comfortable to wear.

Demonstrations highlighted several working features, including:

Live translation of conversations

Recognition of book content

Visual memory recall using Gemini AI

Overlaying notes in the user’s field of vision

Access to Google Maps, YouTube Music

Circle to Search functionality

All processing tasks are performed by the connected smartphone, greatly reducing the device’s weight.

Samsung Glasses
While Google has not confirmed whether the glasses will be released under its own brand, the project is well underway. Several prototypes have been tested, including prescription glasses and sunglasses, with plans to incorporate corrective lenses.

At the same time, Samsung is preparing to launch its own Android-based XR glasses, codenamed “Haean”, expected to be released soon alongside its upcoming Project Moohan headset.
