The Personal Information Protection Commission announced that the service was halted at 6 PM on Saturday and will only resume after necessary "improvements and adjustments in compliance with South Korea’s personal data protection laws."

This decision follows restrictions imposed by multiple government agencies and ministries, which had blocked internal access to the AI service amid growing worries about how the company handles user data.

Last month, the commission formally requested DeepSeek to clarify its data collection and management practices. In response, the Chinese firm has appointed a local representative in South Korea and acknowledged shortcomings in its adherence to local privacy laws. The company has also expressed a willingness to cooperate with the commission to address the concerns.
