Polar Cold Front Brings Heavy Rain, Strong Winds, and Snow to Jordan
Amman- A polar air mass is moving into the Kingdom on Thursday, as a low-pressure system centered over Syria drives a significant drop in temperatures and widespread rainfall, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).اضافة اعلان

The weather is expected to be cold, cloudy, and rainy across most regions, with heavy downpours forecasted in western areas, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail. The department warned of potential flash floods in valleys and low-lying regions, particularly in the western parts of the country, including the Dead Sea area.

Strong westerly winds, with gusts exceeding 65 km/h in some areas, are expected to stir dust and reduce visibility, particularly in eastern and southeastern Jordan. By nighttime, rainfall intensity is forecast to weaken, and wind speeds will decrease slightly, though the weather will remain very cold.

The JMD has issued multiple warnings for the coming days, cautioning against the risk of flash floods in western Jordan, the possibility of reduced visibility due to dust storms in the eastern and southeastern regions, and the danger of hailstorms. It also highlighted concerns over strong winds and sudden gusts, particularly in open areas, and poor visibility over high-altitude areas due to low-lying clouds.

On Friday, temperatures are expected to drop further as the cold air mass continues to impact the kingdom. The weather will remain very cold and partly to mostly cloudy, with intermittent light rain in western areas. Snow may mix with rain over high mountain peaks in the north and south. Westerly winds will stay strong, causing dust storms in parts of eastern and southeastern Jordan.

By Saturday, the polar air mass will intensify, leading to another temperature drop and colder conditions. Rainfall is expected over northern and central Jordan, extending to limited areas in the east and southwest. Initial forecasts indicate the possibility of light and intermittent snow showers over high mountain peaks for short durations. Westerly winds will remain active, with gusts exceeding 60 km/h in some areas, causing dust storms in desert regions. Rainfall is expected to weaken by nighttime.

On Sunday, temperatures will decline further, and the weather will remain very cold and partly cloudy. Light, scattered rainfall is expected in western Jordan during the early morning, with a possibility of light snow showers over high mountain peaks. Northwesterly winds will remain active, occasionally gusting strongly. The night will be extremely cold and partly cloudy, with a chance of intermittent light snow over mountain peaks in the late hours.

Temperatures will range between 12 C and 5 C in east Amman, 10 C and 3 C in west Amman, 8 C and 2 C in the northern highlands, and 7 C and 2 C in the Sharah highlands. In the Badia regions, temperatures will range from 15 C to 4 C, while in the plains, they will be between 13 C and 5 C. The northern Jordan Valley will see temperatures between 19 C and 7 C, while the southern Jordan Valley will experience temperatures ranging from 22 C to 10 C. The Dead Sea is expected to record temperatures between 21 C and 10 C, and in Aqaba, they will range from 22 C to 9 C.
