This was mentioned in a report issued by the PLO's National
Office for Defending Land and Resisting Settlements on the occasion of the 30th
anniversary of the signing of the
Oslo Accords for interim peace between
Palestinians and Israel, Khaberni News reported.
According to the report, the number of settlements in
Palestinian territories reached 158 by the end of the current year, housing
approximately 700,000 to 750,000 settlers, in addition to 15,000 to 20,000
settlers living in over 200 settlement outposts.
Escalating occupation
The report estimated that the number of Israeli settlers in
the West Bank and East Jerusalem has exceeded 750,000, which is seven times the
number in 1993 when the Oslo Accords were signed.
According to the report, since the signing of the
Oslo Accords, Israel has escalated settlement activities, including the opening of
bypass roads and issuing military orders to take control of Palestinian lands.
The report stated that Israel's settlement activities are
"contrary to what was stipulated in the Oslo Accords, which stated that
neither party should initiate or take any steps to change the situation in the
West Bank and Gaza Strip pending the outcome of final status
negotiations."
The report pointed out that the current Israeli government
aims to increase the number of
settlers in the West Bank, including East
Jerusalem, to around one million settlers within the next two years.
