TEL AVIV – On Wednesday, the American news magazine,
Newsweek, studied a survey released in Israel concerning the ongoing war. The
survey revealed that Israelis believe that Netanyahu’s declaration of
war on Gaza was disastrous, as it prompted Israel to launch the most severe air
strikes ever witnessed on Gaza, reported Khaberni.

A survey published by the
Israel Democracy Institute (IDI),
in which 605 men and women participated from December 25 to 28, showed that 85
percent of Israelis want Netanyahu to hand over his position to a new candidate
when the war ends.
Benny Gantz, a former defense minister who currently serves
in Netanyahu’s war cabinet, received 23 percent of support for this position.
About 30.5 percent of the participants did not offer a preferred candidate.
Additionally, more than 56 percent said that continuing the
fight against Hamas is the best way to recover the hostages. Only 24 percent
supported the release of all Palestinian prisoners held by Israel in exchange
for the release of all Israeli hostages, “even if that means agreeing to Hamas’
demand to stop fighting.”
Participants also expressed their hatred for the US for insisting
on certain military conditions, including a ceasefire. About 38.3 percent said
that Israel should never respond to
US demands and turn its military strategy
into a “different phase” of the war to reduce the intense shelling in densely
populated areas. About 28 percent believe that Israel should not take this
path.
However, the magazine concluded that about 51 percent want
their army to take strong revenge against
Hezbollah, saying that Israel “must
strike a strong blow against Hezbollah now, even at the expense of opening
another front in the north.”
