OCCUPIED EAST JERUSALEM – The Al-Aqsa Board of Trustees, an independent human rights
organization, has issued a warning about Israeli excavations that are posing an
imminent threat to parts of the
Al-Aqsa Mosque. According to the organizations,
these excavations, carried out by the occupation forces, are jeopardizing the
structural integrity of the mosque by tampering with its foundations.

According to Fakhri Abu Diab, a member of the committee and
a researcher from Jerusalem, has shed light on the concerning situation. He
pointed out that the current “fascist”
occupation government is pursuing a
perilous plan aimed at not only demolishing the historic
Al-Aqsa Mosque but
also constructing a disputed structure on its grounds, Jo24 reported.
Hindering efforts of Islamic endowments
Diab further elucidated that the occupation government is
actively attempting to solidify its presence within the revered
Al-Aqsa Mosque by imposing new, often contentious, changes on the ground. He emphasized that
the are deliberately hindering the efforts of
Islamic endowments in
Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa, and they are obstructing
restoration initiatives to prevent the exposure of the sensitive archaeological
excavations taking place beneath the mosque.
Authorities are imposing stringent limitations
It is important to note that the occupation authorities are
imposing stringent limitations on crucial repair and restoration work within
the mosque. It is reported that they have prevented as many as 27
reconstruction projects from moving forward in various sections of the mosque.
These projects encompass essential repairs to water
infrastructure, addressing issues on the mosque's surface, replacing its
distinctive lead dome, and rectifying the mosque's flooring. All the while,
these critical restoration projects are being impeded, excavations beneath the
very foundations of Al-Aqsa Mosque persist, raising concerns about the mosque's
structural stability and historical preservation.
