This decision was made following the Arab League's resolution to resume Syria's participation in its meetings, Al-Mamlaka TV, reported.

During a press conference, Aboul Gheit stated that Syria is a full member of the Arab League and has the right to occupy any seat they participate in when an invitation is issued by the host country, Saudi Arabia.

Full membershipThe decision to allow Syria to participate in the Arab Summit means that Syria's full membership in the Arab League has been confirmed.

A closed meeting was held at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo where it was decided that Syrian government delegations can resume their participation in the meetings of the Arab League Council, as well as all its affiliated organizations and bodies, starting from May 7, 2023.

This decision was based on resolution number 8914 issued by the league's ministerial council regarding developments in Syria.

Syrian crisis ongoingDespite the decision to resume Syria's participation in the Arab League meetings, Aboul Gheit clarified that this does not imply that the Syrian crisis has been resolved.

He emphasized that it is a very realistic decision that cannot settle the crisis in a day or a month, and that it will take time to find a resolution.

Aboul Gheit noted that Syria's return to its seat in the Arab League is not the end, but rather a special decision for each country individually to resume relations with Syria. This means that the decision regarding Syria is specific to each country and its own circumstances.

The decision regarding Syria includes a monitoring committee consisting of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Iraq.

The committee's task is to monitor the settlement process in Syria, ensuring that the process is moving forward and that the crisis is being addressed effectively.
