AMMAN — Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad denied any involvement of the Syrian state in encouraging drug trade to neighboring countries. During an interview on "Sky News Arabia," Assad stated that if a state promotes drug trade, it indirectly supports terrorism. He emphasized that if a population is caught between terrorism and drugs, the state undermines itself.اضافة اعلان

Assad said that drug cartels operate covertly, not publicly, collaborating with individuals through bribery, hence dealing openly with a state would expose their activities, Saraya News reported.

He affirmed that the drug trade as a conduit of colonization has always existed. However, during times of conflict and state weakness, this trade naturally thrives. Yet, the responsibility lies with the countries that contributed to creating chaos in Syria, not the Syrian state.

Assad further confirmed that Syria agrees with every Arab official who has visited the country in recent months or weeks and urged an end to the Syrian drug trade. This topic was raised by Syria itself, not just the visiting countries, as Syria shares a common interest with them in eradicating this phenomenon.
