AMMAN – On Sunday,
US President Joe Biden called out members
of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s far-right coalition for escalating
Israel-Palestine tensions, citing that it is “one of the most extreme”
governments he has seen in his decades in politics.

In an interview with CNN, Biden highlighted that while
Israel is part of the problem in the conflict with their outlook on backing
settling in anywhere they want, including the
West Bank.
A warning about the negative impact of Israeli policies
During their
recent visits to Israel, US officials issued a
warning about the negative impact of Israeli policies in the West Bank on
bilateral relations. They expressed concern over the endorsement of random
settlement outposts and failure to
curb settler attacks against Palestinians.
The officials emphasized that these actions not only
jeopardize relations with Gulf states and potential
normalization with Saudi Arabia but also hinder Israeli-American cooperation. The US also highlighted
the lack of effective measures to prevent settler terrorism and prosecute those
responsible for attacks.
Biden criticizes PAHowever, he openly criticized the
Palestinian Authority
(PA), saying that they lost all credibility and left a vacuum for extremism.
Hopes to move towards moderation
Referring to
Netanyahu by his nickname, ‘Bibi,’ Biden
reaffirmed his unyielding support for Israel with hopes that Netanyahu will be
able to move toward moderation with the far-right cabinet members.
Moreover, in the interview, Biden pushed for a two-state
solution, citing that he hopes that “extreme” cabinet can eventually support.
On July 19, President Isaac Herzog is set to address a joint
meeting of Congress, which will mark the 75th anniversary of Israel’s
statehood.
