NEW YORK – More than 50 Arab and international civil society organizations working
in the fields of agriculture, food security, the environment, and human rights,
addressed a letter to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, on
Tuesday, demanding accountability and dismissal of the Executive Director of
the
World Food Programme (WFP),
Cindy McCain for blatant Israeli bias.

According to Al Ghad newspaper, McCain,
participated as a representative of the
World Food Programme at the
Halifax International Security Forum held in Canada from November 17-19, 2023, and
delivered a speech on the close relationship between conflict and hunger, in
which she cited numerous examples of the use of food as a tool of subjugation,
and clearly ignored the reference to more than 2 million people who are
currently starving in Gaza due to the
use of food as a weapon by the occupation.
With her presence in the front row alongside
former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, the Halifax Forum awarded its annual
Leadership in Public Service Award, which bears the name of her late husband,
US Senator "John McCain," to the people of "Israel," and
was accepted by a representative of the arms brotherhood (Achim Laneshek)
organization, which works to raise funds to purchase equipment and provide it
to military and security forces and illegal settlers in the occupied territories.
The signatories to the letter unanimously
agreed that what McCain did was a serious violation of the basics of
humanitarian work, which include impartiality, independence, neutrality, and
humanity. She also did not act with sensitivity to the context of the conflict
and exploited her position as a representative of the international community
in political activity to support and enhance certain governments, external
groups, and political interests, which are currently waging a war of
extermination on millions of Palestinians.
