According to Yedioth Ahronoth, in the early hours of
October 7, Al-Qassam broke through Israel’s security barriers surrounding Gaza,
Khaberni reported.
On that day,
Hamas launched rockets from Gaza into southern
Israel, reaching as far north as Tel Aviv. The resistance claimed to have
launched a total of 5,000 rockets. In addition to the rockets, Hamas sent
fighters on motorbikes, on foot, and even by hang glider into Israeli towns,
including a
music festival. The fighters took several Israeli civilians, some
of whom, as of now, are still in captivity.
On October 30, Hamas released a video in which an Israeli captive
addressed
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying, “You promised to free us
all. Instead, we bear your political and military failure."
Hamas spokesperson Khaled Qaddoumi emphasized that all the
events were in response to “all the atrocities the Palestinians have faced over
the decades” and called on the international community to “stop atrocities in
Gaza, against Palestinian people, [and] our holy sites like
Al-Aqsa Mosque. All
these things are the reason behind starting this battle.”
