AMMAN — A picture of the Western Wall that was displayed in
the Israel office of the Interior Ministry’s appeals' committee was edited to
remove the
Al-Aqsa’s Dome of the Rock in the background, Haaretz reported.

In the photograph that was hanging in the committee’s
reception room, all that can be seen is the base of the mosque, without the
golden dome. Behind it is a lawn and path that were edited into the picture in
its place.
Following a query by the Israeli media outlet about the
image to the
Israeli National Planning Headquarters, which is part of the
Interior Ministry, the picture was taken down.
“If it used to be limited to marginal and extremist groups, today those who dream of erasing the Dome of the Rock are at the heart of the Israeli establishment."
The National Planning Headquarters said "the picture
was hung by the outside (property) management company when the headquarters
moved to its current offices. It is not certain that the person who hung the
picture noticed the missing element. When our attention was drawn to it, the
picture was removed so as not to offend religious sentiments."
Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Yosi Havilio said in response that
"the obscene attempt to erase from the Jerusalem area any
non-Jewish signs has now found its way onto the walls of our planning
institutions."
Aviv Tatarsky, a researcher at the
Ir Amim NGO, said that
"if it used to be limited to marginal and extremist groups, today those
who dream of erasing the Dome of the Rock are at the heart of the Israeli
establishment."
