GAZA - On Wednesday, in a stern
condemnation of the recent bloodshed in Gaza, Josep Borrell, the EU’s High
Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, attributed the tragic
events of February 29 at Nabulsi Roundabout to a decrease in humanitarian aid
to the starving population, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

“On February 29, thousands of Palestinians
rushed toward a convoy carrying aid to the rubble in northern Gaza. They hoped
to finally obtain some food after days of famine,” stated Borrell. “Instead,
more than 100 of them were added to the already devastating death toll, which
reached 30,000 Palestinians—most of whom were women and children—killed in the
Strip, with 700 others injured.”
He emphasized that this tragic incident
marks a new chapter in a long list of atrocities over the past five months,
shocking the world.
The collapse of Gaza's civil
infrastructure, coupled with widespread displacement and chaos, has pushed the
region to the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe, Borrell warned. He pointed
to a recent health report projecting an alarming death toll unless an immediate
ceasefire and increased aid are provided.
He commended efforts by Jordan, some EU
member states, and the US to air-drop food supplies to Gaza but stressed the
urgent need for land routes to facilitate massive aid delivery.
Israel's obstruction of humanitarian
assistance at border crossings, including Karem Abu Salem, Al-Montar, and Beit
Hanoun, exacerbates the crisis, Borrell emphasized. He condemned Israel's
actions in Gaza, suggesting that its objectives extend beyond targeting Hamas,
as evidenced by the widespread destruction of essential infrastructure.
The situation in the occupied West Bank and
Jerusalem remains dire, with Palestinians facing demolitions, settlement
construction, and violence from settlers, making life nearly impossible,
Borrell stated. The EU has repeatedly urged Israel to address settler violence,
release withheld Palestinian Authority (PA) revenues, and refrain from actions
that escalate tensions.
Borrell reiterated that despite the Israeli
government’s rejection, the international community remains united regarding
the two-state solution, and it must swiftly move forward with its
implementation.
