GAZA —The electricity supply to Al-Shifa
Hospital and all its facilities in Gaza has been completely cut off. The
hospital, which accommodates hundreds of Palestinians, is overcrowded with
patients, wounded, and displaced individuals, much like other hospitals in the
region.

UNRWA, the Palestinian refugee agency, had
warned that it would have to halt its relief operations in Gaza due to fuel
shortages, as the area is being heavily targeted by the occupying forces, Ammon
News reported.
In a statement, Gaza health authorities explained the reasons for the collapse of the healthcare system in the region. These reasons include:
1. Overcapacity: Hospitals have exceeded
their capacity by more than 150 percent, resulting in a severe shortage of
critical care beds and surgical facilities.
2. Medical Staff Shortage: Currently, only
30 percent of the required medical staff is available due to the loss of many
healthcare workers who were killed, injured, or displaced.
3. Lack of Medical Supplies: Essential
medical supplies have been lacking for 18 days, affecting the treatment of
various conditions, including cancer patients and those needing dialysis.
4. Electricity and Fuel Shortages: The
occupying forces have cut off electricity and fuel supplies, leading to a
crisis in powering hospital generators.
5. Disrupted Transportation: Roads are
targeted, and fuel for vehicles is blocked, hindering medical teams, and even
ambulances have been attacked.
6. Direct Threat to Hospitals: Hospitals
are directly threatened, with daily shelling and attacks on medical facilities.
7. Hospitals Used as Shelters: Hospitals
are being used as shelters for displaced citizens, resulting in overcrowding
and unsanitary conditions.
