The clashes occurred
as
Palestinian factions in Ain al-Hilweh were conducting a campaign against
extremists hiding within the crowded camp neighborhoods.
The clashes erupted
when an
unidentified gunman tried to
assassinate Mahmoud Khalil, resulting in
the death of one of Khalil's associates.
According to Lebanon's
National News Agency, six people, including two children, were injured in the
gunfire, and ambulances were seen navigating the narrow camp streets to
transport the wounded to hospitals.
While most of the
clashes have subsided, there are still sporadic exchanges of gunfire, prompting
many
residents to seek shelter in nearby camp neighborhoods
