TEL AVIV – On Saturday, Former Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, said that the war must be stopped immediately and a prisoner exchange deal must be reached, not a temporary ceasefire, Khaberni reported.اضافة اعلان

In an article published by the Israeli newspaper, Haaretz, he said, “We expect difficult days and the number of casualties has become escalating and disturbing. I believe that the time has come to announce Israel’s readiness to stop the fighting. Yes, stop the fighting. Not a ceasefire or a temporary cessation for a few days, but stop the fighting and reach a prisoner exchange deal and negotiate the future of [Gaza].”

Olmert added that the “defeat of Hamas” is far-fetched and quite difficult. “The possibilities of achieving the complete elimination of Hamas were non-existent, since the moment when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that it was the main goal of the war,” he said.

Adding, “Even at that time, it was clear to anyone who thought about it that the complete destruction of [Hamas] was just unfeasible, even under conditions other than those in the Gaza Strip.”

Olmert pointed out that “intelligence information has been proven since then to be extremely limited, and the information we had before October 7 was sufficient for us to realize that an advanced tunnel network was spread throughout the strip.”
