Assel
Al-Tayti, likened current Israeli prisons to "Guantanamo," referencing
the U.S. facility in Cuba used to detain Al-Qaeda members after the September
11, 2001 attacks. “Our conditions were tragic. The female prisoners were
isolated in solitary confinement and beaten,” Arab News Agency, reported.
Tayti
spent one year in prison and was not provided with fair judgment, “There was no
TV, no radio, nothing…They made us live in very difficult conditions and we did
not know anything about the outside. We lived in rooms with walls, isolated.
She added that prisoners were only allowed to go out to the bathroom for a
specific time of day.
Meanwhile,
Nour Al-Taher, who spent time at Damon Prison, described the conditions of
female prisoners as “extremely complex.” She added that there are a lot of
restrictions imposed on all the female prisoners, and all of their rights are
taken away.
“No
human being can bear it,” she added.
Taher,
who was imprisoned in September 2022, added that the Israeli authorities
refused to inform any of the detainees who were intended to be released, adding
that it left everyone feeling anxious, and created physiological issues.
While
many people celebrated the release of the prisoners, she described it with
mixed emotions, sharing that many women were left behind.
"The
conditions for female prisoners are extremely complicated. There is a massive
campaign to strip away all the previous rights that prisoners had. I can only
say that the conditions are extremely dire and intolerable for any human
being."
