TEL AVIV – The Minister in the War Cabinet,
Benny Gantz, has threatened Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with
"measures" if funding for extremist religious parties is not stopped,
amounting to billions of dollars in the new budget.

According to Jo.24 quoting Israeli
newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, Gantz requested Netanyahu to cancel all political
financial allocations (funding for religious parties) from the proposed war
budget in an official letter. This threatens a dispute that could lead to the
withdrawal of the centrist "Blue and White" party led by Gantz from
the current war government in Israel.
It is expected that the extremist religious
parties in Netanyahu's government will receive billions of dollars under the
alliance agreement Netanyahu made with the current Finance Minister, Tzachi
Hanegbi, and the leaders of the religious parties.
Hanegbi needs 900 million shekels to fund
settlement activities, programs related to Jewish culture and identity,
sovereignty measures over Area C in the West Bank, and support for extreme
Orthodox Jewish culture, among other items.
Gantz has refused to allocate funds to the
extremist alliance in the proposed war budget, stating that funds should not be
allocated for purposes outside of war efforts or economic support.
Gantz stated that his party would vote
against the proposed budget and would consider its next steps if it is
approved.
