Gaza - The Gaza municipality warned on Tuesday of the aftermath of a water shortage after supplies by Israel's Mekorot water company were halted for more than two weeks.

It said in a statement that the suspension of the Mekorot line, which fed Gaza City with 23,000 cubic meters of water daily, caused a severe crisis and a major shortage, as supplies to Gaza City dropped from 40 percent to less than 15 percent.
The water line was damaged and supply halted as a result of Israeli incursions east of the city, together with limited operation hours of water wells, which led to residents being deprived of the minimum needed amount of water, the municipality said.
It called for intervention by concerned authorities to find solutions to the water crisis, restore pumping of the Mekorot line and provide fuel to raise pumping from local wells.
