The Palestinian group Hamas is set to release 6 Israeli prisoners today, Saturday, as part of a ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange deal that went into effect on January 19, after 15 months of conflict in the Gaza Strip.

On Friday evening, Abu Ubaida, the spokesperson for Al-Qassam Brigades, announced that the prisoners to be released are: Ilya Cohen, Omer Shif Tov, Omer Finkert, Tal Shoham, Avera Mengistu, and Hisham al-Sayed.
Since the ceasefire took effect, Palestinian factions in Gaza have released 19 prisoners in exchange for over 1,100 Palestinian prisoners.
According to the Palestinian Prisoners Club, Israel will release 602 Palestinian prisoners today, including 50 serving life sentences, and will deport 108 prisoners outside of Palestinian territories, in return for the release of the six Israeli detainees.
The ceasefire agreement's first phase, which will end on March 1, stipulates that Hamas will release 33 prisoners, including eight dead individuals, in exchange for Israel releasing 1,900 Palestinian prisoners from its jails.
Hamas confirmed on Wednesday that it is ready to release all hostages still held, not in batches, during the second phase of the ceasefire agreement. (Agencies)
