At least 27 were killed overnight and in the early hours of Monday, according to the Wafa news agency, although many areas have yet to be reached due heavy bombardment and the death toll is likely higher.
These included 15 people killed in the strike in the Tal al-Sultan neighborhood of Rafah in southern Gaza and a further 10 people killed in a strike on Al-Zawaida in the central Gaza Strip, while two others were killed in a strike on a home in the Jabalia refugee camp.
Israeli raids also took place across the occupied West Bank, in Hebron, Qalqilya, Nablus, Jenin, Tubas, and occupied East Jerusalem. Two prominent Palestinian leaders have been arrested: one, Ra’fat Alayan, was taken while he was giving a live television interview.
The Israeli military spokesperson claims that forces stopped firing for several hours over the past two days to allow civilians to evacuate from the north despite repeated attacks on civilians in the southern Gaza Strip and a reported Israeli attack on people fleeing Gaza City.
The UN Security Council is expected to meet on Monday for a closed door meeting on the Israel-Hamas conflict, after a request by the UAE and China.
