Prepared for action, a surgical team
comprising a chief surgeon, an orthopedic surgeon, an anesthetist, and a
theater nurse stands by to assist the overwhelmed hospitals in Gaza in handling
the rising number of casualties, the Jordan News Agency, Petra reported.
Tom Potokar, the chief surgeon of ICRC,
stressed the critical need for deployment, acknowledging the severity of the
situation. The volume of wounded and displaced individuals presents
significant challenges, and ICRC is committed to alleviating their suffering. He noted that
the present circumstances are far more challenging due to the larger number of
injuries, indicating a humanitarian crisis of unprecedented scale.
The recent outbreak of violence in Israel and
the occupied Palestinian territory has reached a level unseen by ICRC in many
years. Gaza's hospitals teeter on the verge of collapse, with diminishing
electricity and dwindling food and water supplies. The extensive
humanitarian requirements arising from this violence necessitate ongoing and sustained
relief efforts, the statement emphasized.
