GAZA – The Palestinian
Government Media Office released a statement on Thursday announcing the
numerous mosques and churches that the
Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) had
destroyed since October 7.

The IOF destroyed 140 mosques completely, partially
destroyed 240 mosques, and targeted and destroyed 3 churches.
Also, the IOF destroyed archaeological mosques and churches
in a failed attempt to erase and bury the Palestinian cultural, historical, and
heritage presence in the
Gaza Strip.
The most prominent methods of destroying mosques were by
dropping rockets and bombs, some of which weighed around 900kg of explosives,
which led to their complete destruction.
The following are some of the
mosques and
churches that the IOF targeted:
●The Great Omari Mosque in Gaza City
●The Great Omari Mosque in Jabalia
●The Sheikh Shaban Mosque
●The Al-Thafar Damri Mosque in Shuja'iyya
●The Khalil Al-Rahman Mosque east of Khan Yunis
●The Sayed Al-Hashim Mosque in Gaza City
●The Church of Saint Porphyrius in Gaza City
●The Byzantine Church of Jabalia
The origins of these mosques and churches date back to the
Phoenician and Roman periods, as well as 800 BC, 1400 AD, and 400 AD.
The crime of bombing and destroying mosques has led to the
disappearance of the call to prayer from dozens of neighborhoods scattered in
the governorates of the Gaza Strip, as well as the cessation of the ringing of
church bells.
These crimes against mosques and churches constitute a clear
international crime under international laws, especially the 1954 Hague
Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed
Conflict and its Second Protocol of 1999, which prohibits intentional targeting
of cultural and religious sites in all circumstances.
