GAZA — UNRWA disclosed that some of its
employees, recently released from

These statements were mentioned in a report by
UNRWA dated February 2024, which includes accounts from Palestinians, including
UNRWA staff, about their mistreatment in Israeli prisons.
The report also stated that "UNRWA
employees were threatened and coerced by Israeli authorities during their
detention, and pressure was exerted on them to make false statements against
the agency, including that the agency has ties to Hamas and that UNRWA staff
participated in the events of
October 7, 2023."
Furthermore, it indicated that the
Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) arrested several Palestinian UNRWA employees, adding
that the mistreatment and violations they claimed to have suffered included
severe physical beatings, simulated drowning, and threats to harm family
members.
UNRWA's Director of Communications, Juliette
Touma stated that the agency intends to provide the information contained in
the unpublished 11-page report to specialized agencies, both inside and outside
the UN, that document potential human rights violations.
She added, "When the war ends, there must
be a series of investigations to look into all human rights violations."
