have been ablaze since October 7th, and the war on Gaza has entered its second
month. Nevertheless, Israel kept a watchful eye on the settlement front in
Jerusalem.

According to Khaberni, the occupation
authorities insisted on approving settlement projects proposed in 2023,
completing the approval steps for others, and continuing work within the
framework of land settlement and registration in Jerusalem.
Khalil Al-Tafakji, the head of the Maps
Department at the Arab Studies Society, told Al Jazeera Net that approval was
granted a few days ago for the plan of "Wadi Majli Park," which will
be built on an area of 720 dunams between the towns of Beit Hanina and Shuafat,
north of the city, in favor of the "Beit Zayit" settlement.
This park joins other ongoing projects such as
the American Street and the Tunnel Street, among others. Al-Tafakji added that
attention is now turning to the new court session scheduled for November 14th
regarding the property of Fatima Salem, threatened with eviction from her home
for the benefit of settlers in the western part of the Sheikh Jarrah
neighborhood.
A year
of settlement expansion
A researcher at the Israeli human rights
organization "Ir Amim," Aviv Tatarsky, stated that two settlement
plans are progressing towards final approvals in Jerusalem. These plans involve
expanding the Ramot settlement by adding 440 new housing units and establishing
a national park on an area of 600 dunams from the lands of the towns of
Al-Issawiya and At-Tur.
Tatarsky added that settlement projects have
not stopped throughout 2023, and "the Israeli government has worked this
year to expand settlements in Jerusalem on a larger scale than we observed in
previous years, and this work continues during the war as it did before."
When asked if the pace of settlement activity
in Jerusalem would increase after the war ends, the researcher at "Ir
Amim" responded that it is difficult to predict now what will happen after
the war in terms of settlement. However, "fear and concern are the
pressure on the Palestinians that will become more difficult by the police,
intelligence, the army, and settler violence."
