AMMAN
– On Sunday, the
Center for Defending Freedom of Journalists (CDFJ) condemned
the killing of Al Jazeera's cameraman, Samer Abu Daqqa, and the injury of Al
Jazeera's office director, Wael Al Dahdouh, during their coverage of the
Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

In
a statement, the organization declared that Daqqa's killing, supported by
concrete evidence, demonstrates that the
Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) deliberately
and systematically target journalists. Daqqa bled for more than six hours
before being killed, with ambulance crews and the
Red Crescent (PRCS) prevented from
reaching him, indicating a clear attempt to terrorize and silence journalists
exposing the
occupation's crimes.
CDFJ
questioned the need for further proof for some Western countries and
international institutions to acknowledge the deliberate targeting of
journalists by the Israeli occupation. The organization criticized certain
media defense institutions for whitewashing the reputation of the Israeli
occupation by ignoring the killing of numerous journalists in Palestine under
false pretexts and using politicized, unscientific, and inaccurate
methodologies.
After
more than 70 days of Israel's war on Gaza,
CDFJ emphasized that there is no
longer a safe place for anyone, including journalists, in Gaza. Targeting is
evident not only in direct attacks but also through threats, attacks on
families, and destruction of homes. Journalists in Gaza face inhumane
conditions with no safe places to stay, limited food, severed communications,
and impossible living conditions.
The
organization questioned the feasibility of traditional safety measures for
journalists, such as protective jackets and helmets, in the face of missiles
that burn and destroy everything. CDFJ highlighted that the killings of
journalists in Gaza constitute the largest massacre in the history of
journalism within a short time and a confined geographical area.
Finally,
CDFJ extended its condolences to the journalistic family in Palestine,
expressing sincere condolences to Al Jazeera for the killing of cameraman Daqqa
and wishing a speedy recovery to colleague Dahdouh.
