AMMAN — Israel continued its
large scale operation Monday against suspected Palestinian resistance fighters inside the Jenin refugee camp. The Israeli army launched the operation on Sunday night, the largest in Jenin since the Second Intifada with a series of more than ten airstrikes and moving brigade-level forces.

Israeli army Spokesman Brigadier General Daniel Hagari said early Monday that as of now the operation is focused on Jenin, but that it could expand to other parts of the northern West Bank.
Around 1:15 p.m., the army and a large group of armed Palestinians engaged in a wider gun battle near a mosque, according to media sources.
Israeli aircraft also engaged the Palestinians to "remove them as a threat." Israeli media reported that some of the armed Palestinians were firing from inside the mosque.
On Monday at noon, at least 8 Palestinians were killed and dozens wounded, according to Palestinian health sources, but numbers are expected to be much higher and to increase in the coming days.
